A Level Economics

Economics helps us understand the world in which we live. In challenging times this has never been more important for people of all ages.

The study of macroeconomics (a nation’s economy as a whole) helps us understand the interplay between economic growth, the rate of inflation, the level of unemployment and our trade with other nations. It helps explain why Britain has been spending more than it has been receiving in taxes. It sheds light on why migrants have sought to make Britain their home. Furthermore, it helps understand why people lose their jobs.

The study of microeconomics (individual markets) allows us to comprehend why consumers choose to buy a product or to seek an alternative. It shows us why some businesses fail and other thrive. It also starts to help us understand why we as humans sometimes make poor choices which might get us into debt, damage the environment or end up making us poorer.
