Science and Maths
Subjects in the Faculty are Maths and English at both Key Stages 3 and 4.
We believe that all students at HAF, have the right to develop the knowledge and skills taught within these subjects, and apply their learning to a ‘real world’ context, in a way that will ensure students are prepared for the working world, no matter what their chosen career.
In Maths, this is particularly important in terms of developing students’ functional skills and in Science, in terms of developing our specialism.
As a new faculty, we are already enjoying the benefits of working collaboratively with the other academies in the federation, to share ideas, resources and learning opportunities – which extend to both students and teachers.
As a Science Specialist Academy, we are proud of the community and outreach work we do with local primary schools. This work not only raises the profile of Science for students, but allows teachers access to valuable professional development. In addition strong links with Kings College, ensure students have the opportunity to see how they could develop their aspirations and careers within a scientific context. The work in Science culminates with an annual Science Week, aimed at celebrating the achievements and opportunities students have gained success from, and which take their learning outside the constraints of the classroom, and open up a whole world of scientific discovery that engages and excite students
The personal development and well being of students in the faculty is monitored and supported by our student manager and team of tutors.
We are committed to celebrating the success of our students through our weekly assembly as well as awarding certificates, merits and prizes for students who make an outstanding contribution to the life of the faculty.
