Academies Federation Cup, Football Tournament

On Wednesday 30th September 2009 a group of Year 9 Harris Academy Falconwood boys travelled to the well manicured pitches at Eltham College in Mottingham for the Academies Federation Cup, Football Tournament. Twenty five teams from London, Kent, Essex, Sussex and Hertfordshire took part and were divided into four groups. Our students played extremely well and managed to win their group against teams with many players who are already attached to professional clubs.

We were the only Harris Academy to get through to the last eight and in the quarter final we were unlucky to be drawn against last year’s winners, Harefield Academy (a Watford FC Youth Team). After a close fought match which ended in a 1-1 draw, the match went to penalties which unfortunately we lost. All of our students played their part in an excellent team performance and are to be congratulated:

Our thanks goes to: Oliver Beard, Reggie Newman, Olatayo Okomlafe, Ryan Thorne, Connor Skinner, Sam Corne, Harry Taylor, Kane Cameron-Furze, Taylor Pitman and James Fone. A three way tie for ‘players of the tournament’, go to Olatayo, Oliver and Sam.
