Curriculum Information

The curriculum of Harris Academy Falconwood is ambitious and comprises of a broad and innovative range of learning experiences planned for each student.  The curriculum offer, in conjunction with excellent teaching that impacts positively on learning and progress, will enable all our students to actively respond to the opportunities and challenges of a rapidly changing world.  The curriculum for each Key Stage is outlined below.

Key Stage 3

Years 7 & 8
This weekly key stage programme of study is followed during years 7 and 8. In the majority of subjects, students are put into sets appropriate to their ability.

Year 9
Students pick some options at the end of year 8, and are have a ‘taster’ of these subjects when in year 9, in order to prepare students for their next phase of learning (Key Stage 4).  Students also choose a ‘primary’ Humanities subject (History or Geography) which they are taught for 3 periods, with the other subject continuing for 1 period.  Students are split into three different routes dependent upon need; F & E route students follow the English Baccalaureate subjects, whilst N route students follow a narrower curriculum.

Key Stage 4

The Key Stage 4 programme of study is followed during years 10 & 11, where students are split into three different routes dependent upon need.  F & E route students follow the English Baccalaureate subjects, whilst the N route students follow a narrower curriculum.

All students will have the opportunity to re-evaluate the option choices they chose for year 9, and choose either History or Geography.  Students then have to confirm two further option choices.  Some options choices may have entry criteria.
