Geography
KS3
In KS3 Geography, students are given an opportunity to learn about the world we live in today, through exploring both human and physical interaction. We teach pupils a wide variety of key geographical skills and build in many opportunities for pupils to investigate further for themselves.
In Year 7 the students cover a range of exciting and interactive topics. For example: Our World and Landscapes, Migration and Multiculturalism, Weather and Climate, Risky World, Rivers and Flooding & Settlement.
In Year 8 the students develop their knowledge and understanding further with: Brazil, Ecosystems, Glacial Environments, Who wants to a billionaire, Resources & Mapping.
In Year 9 the students move onto more analytical and evaluative geographies. This includes: Impossible Places, Who wants to live for ever, The geography of Conflict, Asia, Paradise Lost & London 2012
By the end of KS3 our students have an excellent understanding of the world around us and how both human and physical processes have shaped where we live.
KS4
At KS4 we complete the AQA A Syllabus which we believe offers a modern approach, with a wide variety of topics and a clear and effective assessment process.
Pupils will study: the changing urban environment, water on land, the hazardous earth, the coastal zone and the development gap.
To compliment the exam, 25% of the final GCSE is gained through the Controlled Assessment. Here pupils take part in a fieldwork investigation over a residential trip and follow up this up with a written response directed under guided supervision.
Finally geography students get the opportunity to take part in a variety of trips to compliment their in school learning. Including day visits, a residential trip to Dorset, evening extended learning sessions with the Royal Geographical Society and an exciting residential trip to the Spanish coast.
