Harris Academy Cricket Update
Presently, the Academy runs a Cricket Enrichment after school once a week for boys and girls of all abilities. Regular attendees range from students that represent the local District sides to absolute beginners. The emphasis is on enjoyment whilst learning and improving the rudiments of the game.
The Academy had its first formal fixture in May. The Under 13 team in adverse conditions and after losing the toss on a ‘sporting’ wicket showed commendable tenacity, team spirit and no mean amount of skill in taking the game to the penultimate over. The opposition emerged as victors but our boys gained much from the experience. They are now keener than ever and really appreciate the importance of drills performed during Cricket Enrichment sessions.
There are more fixtures arranged up to the end of the Summer Term – notably an inter Federation fixture against Harris East Dulwich. The future for Cricket at Harris Falconwood looks very positive, more fixtures are planned and more age group teams will be entered for the North East Kent Cup competition next season. This coupled with our fantastic new facilities from September 2011, which will enable all year round cricket specific training, will make our Academy a good place for students to develop and enjoy the game.
