Federation Science Egg Race Day

Last term, I took three of the Academy’s biggest science ‘egg heads’ to Harris Boys’ Academy East Dulwich to compete in theFederation’s Science Egg Race. Jade Crump 7CE, Frankie Jordan 7SM and Jacob Gosden 8SM were selected to represent Falconwood in the event. We arrived not knowing what the competition would be, only that we needed our science skills to win!

We sound found out that the competitors needed to devise a plan to carry a penny as far as possible using only a piece of string, a few balloons, some tape, and a straw. This was no easy task and required some ingenious scientific problem solving. Jade, Frank and Jacob worked incredibly well as a team, swapping leadership roles when fresh challenges arose and new skill sets were required.

During the planning phase it looked like we were going to do very well, but some technical difficulties during the execution stage meant that we placed fourth overall. The students and I had an extremely enjoyable time and look forward to our next opportunity to hone our competitive science skills even further.
