DofE Award Scheme Funding
Harris Academy Falconwood recently secured funding of £2865 from the Duke of Edinburgh programme, enabling us to enrol 100 students from KS4 for the Award Scheme this Academic Year. Some of our Year 10 students that have recently enrolled were presented with the cheque by Rob Clark, Operations Manager for Duke of Edinburgh Awards, along with our Principal, Ms Askew.
This generous contribution to the Academy means that we are now able to offer the scheme at a much more affordable price, making it accessible for all of our students. In fact, we have been able to sign up the highest number of students since we started the Duke of Edinburgh Award back in 2008. With the current group of students who have enrolled, we hope to have our highest success rate! The funds will be used to provide new equipment to support the students in the completion of the Award.
The Duke of Edinburgh Award offers students the chance to try something different to what they usually experience at the Academy on a day to day basis. It is clear to see how excited they are to take on this new challenge and the fantastic opportunity it gives them to challenge themselves across many different pursuits, whilst working towards an Award that is so appealing to potential employers and Further Education establishments. The Duke of Edinburgh Award certainly looks very impressive on a young person’s C.V. and speaking from my own personal experience, it is without doubt a fantastic opportunity to build life skills such as teamwork, co-operation and communication.
