Keep Learning, Keep Growing This Summer
While the summer holidays provide a well-earned opportunity to rest, recharge and spend time with family and friends, they also offer a fantastic chance to keep minds active and curious.
Educational researchers have long highlighted the impact of the "summer slide" or "summer learning loss" – the tendency for some students' academic progress to slow, stagnate or even decline during extended breaks from learning. Studies consistently show that students who continue to read, practise key skills and engage in enriching activities over the summer are better prepared to return to school in September and make strong progress in the new academic year.
The good news is that keeping your mind active does not have to mean sitting at a desk all summer. Reading a great book, visiting a museum, learning a new skill, being creative, exploring nature, completing a project, or simply investigating a topic that interests you can all help to develop knowledge, creativity and confidence.
To support this, every student has access to our Purple Route Booklets. These have been carefully designed by our subject departments and contain a range of engaging activities that encourage students to learn beyond the curriculum in ways that are fun, creative and inspiring. Whether you enjoy solving problems, creating, researching, reading, designing or exploring new ideas, there is something for everyone.
The Purple Route Booklets are an excellent way to maintain positive learning habits whilst broadening your horizons and discovering new interests ready for September.

We encourage all students to challenge themselves to complete as many activities as possible over the summer and to return in September ready to build on another successful year of learning.
Keep reading, keep exploring, and most importantly, keep being curious. We look forward to hearing about all the fantastic things you have achieved over the summer
