Purple Route

The Purple Route provides an engaging extracurricular journey that encourages students to read, communicate, create, and achieve, rewarding commitment and celebrating success throughout their time at HAF. Below is more detail on the opportunities for each year group.

 

Purple Route – Year 7: Read, Explore, Discover

The Purple Route in year 7 is designed to encourage students to develop a love of reading beyond the classroom.

In Year 7, students are challenged to explore a wide range of books and articles recommended by teachers across different subjects. After reading, students complete a short book report and submit it via Microsoft Forms.

Every completed report earns:

• A Purple Route stamp
• Positive points
• Progress towards exclusive celebration rewards and trips

This is a fantastic opportunity for students to broaden their knowledge, improve their literacy skills, and discover new interests while being recognised for their achievements.

 

Purple Route – Year 8: Speak with Confidence

In Year 8, the Purple Route focuses on developing students' communication and presentation skills.

Students choose from a variety of thought-provoking topics suggested by their teachers before writing and delivering a speech. Speeches can be performed live or recorded and submitted through Microsoft Forms.

Each completed speech earns:

• A Purple Route stamp
• Positive points
• The chance to qualify for celebration events and reward trips

The Purple Route helps students build confidence, develop their public speaking skills, and express their ideas creatively.

 

Purple Route – Year 9: Create and Innovate

For Year 9, the Purple Route encourages students to apply their knowledge through independent projects.

Students select a topic that interests them and create a project to showcase their learning. Projects are then submitted via Microsoft Forms and celebrated for their creativity and effort.

Every completed project earns:

• A Purple Route stamp
• Positive points
• The opportunity to attend exclusive reward events and celebration trips

This stage of the Purple Route allows students to demonstrate independence, creativity, and curiosity while developing valuable research and project-management skills.

 

Year 10 – Volunteer and Make a Difference

In Year 10, the Purple Route focuses on giving back to the school and wider community through volunteering.

Students take part in volunteering opportunities throughout the year and record their experiences in a Purple Route Volunteering Log Book. By reflecting on the skills they have developed, students build valuable experience that supports both their personal development and future aspirations.

Through volunteering, students will:

• Develop leadership and teamwork skills
• Support their school and local community
• Build confidence and responsibility
• Create a record of their achievements through their log book

Students are recognised and rewarded for their commitment and contribution throughout the year.

 

Year 11 – Independent Study and Exam Success

In Year 11, the Purple Route is designed to support students in achieving their full academic potential through independent study.

Students complete additional revision and independent learning beyond the work set in lessons. By taking ownership of their learning and consistently engaging with extra revision activities, students strengthen their understanding and prepare effectively for their GCSE examinations.

The Year 11 Purple Route encourages students to:

• Develop effective independent study habits
• Take responsibility for their own learning
• Build confidence and resilience in preparation for GCSEs

Students' dedication and commitment to independent learning is recognised and celebrated as they prepare for the next stage of their education.
