Year 9 Options
Options Process
Options time is an important point in your child’s education; it is here that they get to choose some of the subjects that they will study for the next two years. We know that it can be a difficult time and can cause anxiety because there are a lot of questions that you and your child might have.
Our options process has been designed to make this time less worrying for you and your child. It aims to create a balance between what we as educators know will help individual students, and the freedom to choose subjects they will enjoy and be enthusiastic about.
To support our students in choosing their option subjects for their GCSE studies, we provide a range of different resources and events. These include assemblies, our subject information booklet and an Options Evening. During this evening, every student and their parent/carer will have a meeting with a member of staff at the Academy to discuss their option choices to support all students in choosing the best subjects for them.
The Options Evening for our current Year 9 students is on 25th February 2026. This is an Online Event.
If required, students and parents/carers will be able to book an options meeting with a member of staff on 25th March 2025.
Our latest options booklet can be found here or at the bottom of this page.
Options Subjects
*These subjects are vocational qualifications, which are equivalent to GCSEs. The key differences are:
- A larger proportion of the course is assessed through coursework
- The subject is graded Pass, Merit, Distinction rather than using the 9-1 grading scale used at GCSE.
