A Visit from Our Local MP
This year, our A Level Politics students were delighted to welcome Louie French MP to the academy after extending an invitation for him to visit. As a former student of the school, Mr French relished the opportunity to return and see how the academy has evolved since his own time here.
During his visit, Mr French delivered a fascinating and engaging talk, sharing his journey into politics and offering students valuable insights into life as a Member of Parliament. Speaking candidly about his career pathway, he encouraged students to take an active interest in current affairs and demonstrated how passion, hard work and public service can lead to a rewarding career.
Following his presentation, Mr French faced his very own Question Time, with a panel of our Sixth Form students posing a series of thoughtful, challenging and probing questions. The discussion covered a wide range of topics, including the impact of Brexit, public confidence in politicians, and the historic MPs’ expenses scandal. Our students impressed with their confidence, knowledge and willingness to engage in respectful debate, demonstrating the strength of political understanding that exists within our Sixth Form community.
One student commented:
"It was brilliant to hear directly from a serving MP and ask questions about issues that affect the country. Mr French was really open with his answers, and it made many of the topics we've studied in class feel much more relevant."
The visit was a fantastic opportunity for students to engage directly with the political process and gain a deeper understanding of the realities of public life. It was equally special to welcome back a former student who has gone on to represent the local community in Parliament, providing an inspiring example of where ambition and dedication can lead.
We are incredibly grateful to Louie French for taking the time to visit the academy and share his experiences with our students. It was a memorable and insightful event, and we very much hope to welcome him back again soon for another stimulating discussion with our young political minds.
