September 2020 - Re-opening The Academy

Dear Parents and Students

As you know, we have been focusing for some time on how to ensure that our Academy can safely open to all students in September – something we are all so much looking forward to.  We have learnt a lot in lockdown about how to deliver a virtual education, and families and staff have been outstanding in their support of this, but our young people need the routine of normal Academy life and they also need to see their friends and teachers.

Having already done a lot of preparation and ground work, we are in a very strong position for the Autumn term, however, the Academy will feel different in some ways and these are a consequence of ensuring that we follow the guidance laid out for us by the Department for Education.  The intention is that we offer a full school day and as broad a curriculum as the guidance allows.  Please see the table below to see when your son or daughter will return to the Academy;

Face coverings in Secondary Education

At the end of last week, the Department for Education published new guidance regarding face masks and their usage in an education setting. The World Health Organisation (WHO) also published a statement on 21st August 2020 regarding face coverings. In light of these updates, we recommend that all students and staff bring a face covering to the Academy as from this September, until further notice. At HAF, we will not be providing students or staff with these face coverings or have them for purchase, except in certain circumstances. Please contact us if you feel you need some support.

It is the individual’s responsibility (families/carers responsibility for students) to bring a clean face covering to the Academy on a daily basis. Face coverings must be new daily, or be re-usable in nature and washed before each use.

Staff and Student Face Covering Guidance:
In Lessons Not advisable to wear a face covering (at individual’s discretion)
Corridors and Communal Areas (in movement)  Highly Recommended that a face covering is worn (at individual’s discretion)
Small Assembly Gatherings Recommended that a face covering is worn (at individual’s discretion)
Buses or Public Transport Compulsory that a face covering is worn (as policy from TFL or other providers)
Local Shops or services Recommended that a face covering is worn (at discretion of shop/service provider)
Close Contact Recommended that a face covering is worn (at individual’s discretion) e.g first aid
